User Interface design can be defined in many ways. In UX Design, UI is the suggestion or recommendation of elements on the display; where they reside, what function they represent, and how they are accessed by the user. My wireframes define the exact location of these elements. The User Experience designer defines the height of the leadspace, the type, location, and method of navigation, the location of buttons and calls to action, and the layout of content and imagery.
On large team structures I generally work with talented visual designers to implement the high-fidelity user interface, but on smaller teams, the task of high fidelity UI design needs to be accomplished by the UX designer as well. This optimizes both resources and assists with budgetary constraints.
